Dry rot is a single species of fungus which infects buildings and because it requires relatively less moisture than its wet rot counterparts, it can spread voraciously throughout the building fabric.

 

A number of species can be found in buildings, the commonest are shown below, causing damage which can be widespread but is often restricted to particularly damp areas.

Renew timbers.

The mycelium is generally too fine to be seen by the naked eye, except where the hyphae are very closely packed together.
