Your Loft Space

Having your loft space partially boarded out, will give you one-third extra floor space, for storage.

We can do a no-nonsense job, including a loft light and switch (average size loft) for £200 including all materials.

Bear in mind, lofts are not designed to carry heavy loads. Boarding one out is not the same as converting it as a living space.

The benefits of storing safely all those items that can take up so much of your household space are immeasurable. Suitcases, Christmas decorations, family toys and games, empty cases and boxes can all be easily and safely stored away and accessed whenever you want.

120x32x8cm (LWD) Tongue and Groove chipboard is used.

Don't forget your loft insulation and Pipe Lagging

Putting in or increasing your loft insulation will save you money. This will of course make your loft space colder, so you really must ensure that your pipes are adequately lagged. Even if you are insured, if your pipes are not lagged your insurance company might not pay out, please read the small print in your insurance policy.

If you have a burst pipe in your loft and you are not insured, you are looking at some serious ££££££££££

 Potential Danger

I was recently contacted by a homeowner who wanted me to check the washer in the water inlet isolation/service valve located in his loft. The valve connected to the float inlet. A neighbour had recently had the washer in his valve disintegrate and the result was that his bedroom ceiling collapsed and his bedroom and hallway were flooded.

When I removed the service valve, the fibre washer was in the process of disintegrating. I replaced the washer and hopefully all will be well.

It is worth bearing in mind, no washer will last forever, but if one goes in your tap or ground-floor pipe work, the worst that can happen is a flooded floor. If it happens in your loft... If it happens in your loft when you are away!!!

Get all connections in your loft checked at least every five years. It should only cost around £40 for the inspection and replacement of  washers (might as well do it) the peace of mind is well worth the cost, and the savings could be worth thousands.

The damage in this picture happened over a period of two weeks, there was a constant drip that went undetected, the loft insulation soaked up the water, the ceiling only gave way when the weight became to much.
